Beasley aims for April 14 announcement
Circle April 14 on the calendar.
That's the day Michael Beasley intends to hold a press conference to hopefully announce his future plans. The Kansas State freshman forward said Friday that he believes he will have a decision on whether or not he will go pro by then, but he also said it's not a deadline.
'It's to let everyone know what I'm thinking,' said Beasley, resting in a hotel chair after a long day of radio and television interviews.'... If I come to a decision, that's the day everyone will know.'
In San Antonio as a finalist for the Naismith Award, he has been whisked from event to event, party to party, the toast of the Final Four without even lacing up his Nikes. And that, according to Beasley, is one of the main issues he's having right now in making his decision.
'Champions,' Beasley said. 'Championships. Final Four. I haven't played in it, and I'd like to win a championship in some form.'
At the Alamodome, Michael Beasley watched as North Carolina participated in an open practice. His former Oak Hill Academy teammate, sophomore point guard Ty Lawson, is a Tar Heel. Beasley admitted being envious.
'Because they're still playing,' he said. 'I love being here, but I would rather the whole team be here, not just me.'
He can't help but consider the future, though. The NBA's deadline for early entrants is April 26.
Michael Beasley is finished with his schoolwork for the year. He took all online classes in the second semester, and he was done in February.
'School is not a factor,' he said.
Neither are agents. He insists he hasn't talked to any agents face to face, and there hasn't been any direct contact. Beasley did allow that individuals in his 'circle' might 'know some people.'
'It's getting real hectic, but I'm ready for it,' he said.
